The importance of recording information at weaning time is noted throughout the lifetime of the animal. The weights are used to create an EBV on weaning weight.
The Dam and Sire information is then used to keep records and to put on the management tag. Each calf gets a new number at weaning with the Dam and Sire at the top of the tag.
This is helpful information in the paddock to determine what bloodlines a particular animal has. This year we have started using TSU samples for DNA recording to verify an animal's genetic makeup.
